COURT HEARS HOUSING-BIAS CASE.(CAPITAL REGION)

University policies that require students to be married in order to qualify for family housing discriminate against gay and lesbian couples, a lawyer argued Tuesday before the state's highest court.

The Court of Appeals heard arguments in a case that could open up family housing to same-sex couples across New York, including at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy. Two lesbian medical students in New York City, Sara Levin and Maggie Jones, filed a lawsuit against Albert Einstein College of Medicine after they and their partners were denied low-rent apartments owned by the school.
